After nearly 20 years of working in public schools, I knew I wanted something different for my family! Those years taught me that the conventional methods of teaching are not only outdated and ineffective, but are causing widespread damage to our society.
Living in partnership with our children is an ongoing practice of questioning societal norms and often our own upbringing. I engage in conscious reflection and intentional practice every day in order to raise my kids as open minded and curious people.

As Kristen pursued her teaching career, she encountered recurring instances of injustice within academia, leading her to question the education system's integrity. Eventually, she decided to step away from administrative roles in education and embarked on a new mission: teaching parents how to "unschool" their children. I have both options available and both have different benefits. Working one-on-one gives us the chance to get deep with your personal beliefs and figure out how to make peaceful parenting and unschooling work for your unique situation. Alternatively, group work can be very powerful in sharing a variety of perspectives in each session and surrounding one another with the support of many on the same journey.
It's both! The homeschool approach for which I advocate (also known as unschooling) requires rich connection with our children. Therefore it is deeply intertwined in how we parent. While we can separate the two, I find it to be most affective to work on both together.
This is a common misconception. Parents who use the unschool approach with their children work hard to maintain healthy relationships with them. Through connection and trust, we support our kids in developing their passions and interests in meaningful ways.
